The more I venture into the heart of Hell's Kitchen, the more I really start to love it. I don't live in this area anymore, but I still find myself making special trips to my favorite places here. Just steer clear of the tourists.
- Amy's Bread (Bakery) If you're Jonesing for carbs, then meet your new dealer - her name is Amy, and you'll want what she's selling.
- Casellula (American Nouveau) Casellula bills itself as a cheese and wine cafe, but it is so much more. Sure, they have phenomenal cheeses and great wines, but they also have great small plates and amazing desserts.
- Hell's Kitchen (Latin Fusion) The eponymous restaurant Hell's Kitchen offers innovative, Latin inspired fare in a funky and lively space.
- Island Burger (Burgers) With hundreds (probably thousands) of combinations of ingredients they cater to New Yorkers of every shape, size and assortment of taste buds. Definitely one of the top burger places in the city.
- Taboon (Mediterranean) The space at Taboon delivers authentic, ethnic charm and exotic, modern hipness. The food delivers consistently, and is easily the best of its kind in the area, possibly the city.
- Xai Xai (African) With an edgy, romantic vibe in the air and a stronger focus on Pinotage than on the cuisine, Xai Xai is better suited for an after-dinner drink than a destination restaurant for foodies.
